Religiosity

by Yosef Levenstein

Liberal orthodoxy, modern orthodox, frum from birth, frum for lack of choice. Labels, do we use these labels just to protect ourselves? I’d like to think that labels are for defining ourselves but most likely it’s just for others to define us.

Try to define yourself in one word. It’s not that easy is it? So why use one word to categorize others?

  1. For an explanation of the potential benefit to labels – if used intelligently and cautiously – check out Rabbi Hecht’s “Adjective and Non-Adjective Jews” from Nishma Introspection 5761-2 (available at http://www.nishma.org)
